From Hilo, Hawaii, Chloe Takahashi is a sophomore representing Pacific women’s tennis. She originally started her athletic career playing soccer, but transitioned to playing tennis at age 10—and now, has been playing for nine years. She plays both singles and doubles for Pacific, but definitely enjoys doubles more. “I love talking to people, and there’s way less pressure when you’re out on the court with someone else,” said Takahashi, who also believes that doubles is more strategic, and less stressful than singles. “When I’m by myself I get in my head a lot.”

She loves to hit short angle shots that dart sideways off the court, and although those opportunities don’t come around super often, she always feels satisfied when she’s able to pull one off.

Her favorite memory from her time with Pacific tennis is going to Florida with the team and getting to experience the United States Tennis Association National Campus—along with seeing an alligator for the first time, and getting to play against schools from different conferences. Her goals for this year are to win the ITA Northwest Regional DIII championship in doubles, and to make it to the NCAA championships.

Ella Mee is a junior player from Santa Clarita, California on the Pacific women’s soccer team. She can be seen on gameday holding it down in the midfield for the Boxers. She started playing soccer at 10 years old, and started to fully commit to the game at the beginning of high school. After a brief hiatus from the sport in high school, she made the last minute decision to commit to playing soccer in college. She believes the connections she has made with her teammates have really made that decision worth it. Her favorite playing style is quick, one touch passes in between players, also known as Tiki-Taka. “It’s fun when it works,” she chuckled.

One of her best memories with the team is taking a trip to California for a tournament last semester, going to the beach, and eating In-‘n-Out. Her goals for the season are to enjoy every moment with the senior class and to have as much fun as possible. “It gets difficult once you get too emotionally invested,” said Mee, who wants to prioritize enjoying this year as much as possible. “Come watch us!”

Jordan Nakamura

Jordan Nakamura is a sophomore golfer from Oahu, Hawaii. He started his golf journey at age eight, and has made lifelong friends through the sport in his 11 years as a player. His favorite shot is “any shot you hit flush,” or whenever you make perfect contact with the ball, as those types of shots are the ones that leave him feeling the most satisfied. One of his proudest accomplishments is winning Championship Flight Player of the Year on a junior tour in Hawaii.

His best memories with the golf team are from team bonding nights, where he was able to connect with his teammates and create lasting relationships that go beyond the course. According to Nakamura, his goals for the coming years are “improving my mental game, and just getting better every year,” and hopefully winning a lot of tournaments.
