A McCormick resident shares the horrifying, and gross moment they spotted a cockroach in their dorm

Cockroaches (yes, you read that right) have reportedly infiltrated the halls of McCormick. Just this last Sunday, a McCormick resident, who’s asked to remain anonymous, spotted a wriggly black thing in their room. Taking a closer look, they identified the unidentified crawling object to be cockroach, took a photo for proof, and then promptly killed it. The resident searched their room and found a nest filled with unhatched eggs. They very quickly got into contact with the university.

“Three weeks ago, I thought I saw it, but I didn’t like see it, and I looked for an hour in the dead of night,” the resident described. “I was like, ‘Okay maybe I’m going crazy.’ And then I found it again this last weekend…” The resident attested to the cleanliness of their room, saying that this incident was not the cause of a dirty dorm.

The university promptly responded and sent maintenance to their room to set traps for the creatures, but the residents were not offered a room exchange, despite the spotting of not only a cockroach, but also a nest with eggs. The resident assured that the university was very prompt and apologetic in their response, but they felt that it was their responsibility to share the story and warn fellow McCormick residents. “I mean, if there’s one cockroach, there’s going to be more,” they warned. “I don’t know if the university is going to talk about it or warn what’s going on. So, just, hey, everybody, this is a possibility that has happened. It could be just a one-time thing, but who knows.”

Associate Director of Communications, Blake Timm, has responded to the claim saying, “Ensuring that all residents have a safe and comfortable living environment is a top priority for the university, and all reports are taken seriously.” Timm shared that Pacific’s facilities team have been keeping a watchful eye on the infested room, as well as surrounding dorms. He says that the situation will continue to be monitored, but that students should contact Campus Living staff immediately if they encounter any more creepy critters. The hope is that this was an isolated event, but as the resident who fell victim to the cockroach said, who knows. So, keep an eye out for any cockroaches making their homes in Mac and don’t hesitate to reach out.
