I’d like to take a moment to welcome all the freshmen and transfer students to Pacific University, a place that will hopefully be a huge part of your life for the next few years. You have stumbled upon the orientation issue of the Pacific Index, the 120-year-old college newspaper of which I am the opinion editor.
As you’ll soon come to find out, Pacific is a great place to get involved with your community. There are student organizations for practically anything and I encourage you to seek out your interests and talents. With that in mind, I’d urge you to lend the Index your opinions and input.
Joining the newspaper staff is a great way to quickly learn the ins and out of Pacific University. Whether you’re covering a basketball game, reviewing a student play, announcing dorm policy changes or writing an opinion piece, having your voice be heard by the Pacific community can be a fun and rewarding experience.
