Lacrosse players Natalie Getchell and Stephanie Manning were recently selected to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association’s Division III Academic Honor Roll.

Receiving this award came as a big surprise to the seniors, who were both unaware of having been nominated.

“People were coming up to me and saying congratulations,” said Getchell. “I didn’t even know what they were congratulating me for.”

Getchell said she found out about the award when she was on a lacrosse website looking for information on a scholarship and saw both her and Manning’s name.

“It was a great surprise,” said Getchell. “Our coaches nominated us but even they didn’t know we got it.”

Getchell then posted the link to Manning’s Facebook wall and soon after it was featured on the Pacific website.

Getchell and Manning said they were happy to receive recognition for their academic achievements. The two were the only players named to the IWLCA from a Division III school on the West Coast.

Manning and Getchell cited team study sessions and budgeting time efficiently as their reasons for success in academics.

As the only two seniors on the lacrosse team that have played for Pacific all four years, Getchell and Manning said they were both ready to go all out for their final season.

“It is sad thinking this will be my last season of competition,” said Manning. “With that said there is nothing to lose. I am going to lay it all out on the line and have fun this year.”
Although neither of them will be eligible to play for Pacific after this season, both Manning and Getchell will continue their academics at the College of Education next year, with both hoping to pursue careers in teaching.
