After only a year of being a recognized club sport, the dance team took home championship awards from the Universal Dance Association Northwest Championships Feb. 28.
The team traveled to Tacoma with jazz and hip-hop routines, choreographed by 2014 alumnus Berkley Holzschuh and junior Jacqline Rosa, and earned first place in jazz and second in hip hop.
Holzschuh said the team improved, not only in the technique and difficulty but also in comments from the judges.
“It’s an honor to be competing at that level already,” Holzschuh said. “A lot of teams aren’t at that level yet.”
Auditions for the 2015-2016 team will be held in April. Holzschuh urged students to like the Facebook page for upcoming news on the auditions and to see the weekend’s performances.
