RHA urges students to checkout properly

The end of the semester is upon us, which means it is time to start making that checklist of things to do before heading home for the summer.

For those on the block meal system with Real Food on Campus, be aware that the last block meal will be served on Tues. May 17.

“We will be having a complimentary breakfast on May 18 from 9am to 10:30am by the Fireside Lounge,” said Food Services Director, Bethany Bigelow.

Along with meals, anyone with a declining balance of $100 or less will have that amount carried over into the fall semester of 2011, but anything greater than $100 will not carry over, according to Bigelow.

“Be sure to join us for ‘Fuel for Finals’ on Sun. May 15 at 10pm,” said Bigelow. The fuel for finals feed is a free meal of pasta and bread available to students during that time in the U.C.

Another thing to take care of is to fill out the summer address card that has been placed in each student’s U.C. box by mail services. This will take care of any mail throughout the summer by forwarding it to students’ summer address. Be sure to fill out information cards and turn them into the mail services desk before leaving campus for the summer, located in the basement of the UC across from the MPR.

Lastly, residence halls will be closing at noon on May 18.

“All residents will need to sign up for an express checkout time with their Resident Assistant and need to be moved out by that time.  That time should be before noon on Wed. May 18,” said Director of Housing, Lisa Geraci.

According to Geraci, before students check out, they should vacuum their room, clean the countertops, wipe down surfaces and remove all trash from their space. “It should be clean enough for someone to move in” she said.

If students have any damages in their room, Residence Life and Housing will send them an email over the summer explaining the damages and the cost of the damage. According to the department of Housing and Residence Life flyer, students who fail to check out properly will be fined $50. For more information, please read the “living on campus” section in the residence hall handbook.

There will also be limited storage for students returning to on-campus housing in the fall of 2011, but it is a first come-first serve basis. There is also information about this in the residence hall handbook.

The end of the semester is less than a week away, so be sure to plan ahead on what needs to get done.
