Undead prey upon family weekend

On the morning of Oct. 13, zombies were prowling the campus attacking all of the Boxer Dash participants.

This was the first-ever Boxer Dash hosted by the Exercise Science Club and headed by club president Brandon Eddy. The event brought an element of fun and fear into running. For those who aren’t fond of running, the Boxer Dash is a different way of getting in shape and connected with those in the Pacific community.

There were many people there who had not had the experience of doing a marathon and the Boxer Dash was a great introduction into the world of running. First-time runner, freshman Tyris Tominaga said, “I have never done anything like that before and it was a good experience for me.”

If runners could make it through the course without getting tagged by the red paint that the zombies were carrying, they would be given a prize at the end of the race. It wasn’t nearly as simple as just trying to avoid the zombies; they had to go through obstacle courses such as climbing under netting and crawling through a tunnel of boxes with red paint-armed zombies reaching through the cracks “infecting” anybody within reach.

One of the more impressive aspects of the run was the realistic zombies. Most of the zombies were able to learn how to apply ruthless and eerily realistic wounds to frighten the runners all the more.

Whether they were runners, zombies or zombie make-up artists, all of the participants were definitely thrilled with the outcome. All of the hard work that the Exercise Science Club, Pre-OT Club, Pre-PT Club, EDMC, PUMA Club, Pre-CSD Club and the Physics Club have put in has now paid off for a successfully horrifying run.
