Modernizing the “Newspaper”

1–2 minutes

Changes are coming to the Pacific Index

By Editor-in-Chief Grace Bland and Faculty Advisor Phil Busse

Dear readers,

Over the past 20 years, newspapers have become less about “paper” (and perhaps less about “news” as well, but that’s a different conversation). Done best, newspapers have become multi-media platforms, able to deliver news faster than ever before, skipping the printing press and coming directly to you through your phone or computer.

The award-winning Index is following suit: Starting next term, you will see fewer paper copies of the newspaper, but you also will see more news, more analysis and all delivered in more media mediums. We will continue to print special issues of the Index in the traditional paper format, but we also are leaning into our online website and, especially exciting, will begin to produce video and podcast content.

In addition to the Index, our staff is launching our video channel, Boxer TV, on which student-staff will analyze Boxer sports and Boxer arts, music and theater. You also will find peaks into student lives through our podcast, UnBoxed

The Index is excited to step into this new era.

Happy reading and go Boxers!

Sincerely,

The Pacific Index Staff
