JV Softball preps for the season

As the spring sports season approaches, Pacific’s junior varsity softball is entering the final stages of preparation before officially beginning their season. After weeks of practices, conditioning, and team-building, the program is focused not only on performance but also on establishing the chemistry and habits that will shape their gameplay.

With the first few games of the season just around the corner, players from the team have spent recent practices focusing on fundamentals and developing the habits necessary to have a competitive season.

On the softball field, preparation has been intentional and consistent. The team practices throughout the week, mixing full-team sessions with one-hour small-group workouts focused on hitting and pitching. “When we’re practicing on our own, we mainly work on First and Thirds and bunt defense, as well as basic defensive situations,” Kaitlyn Knobe, a returning player, noted. These situational drills may not always stand out, but they often determine the outcome of close games. By repeatedly practicing game-like scenarios, the team is working to limit mistakes and stay composed under pressure.

Leadership also plays an important role in shaping preseason energy. Knobe and other returners understand that setting the tone is about more than performance. “As a returner, I want the younger girls to enjoy their first season or have a better experience than they did last year,” she said. “We want to win and play with intensity, but we can’t do that if we’re not relaxed.”

Creating an environment where new players feel comfortable and confident has become a priority. When players trust each other and feel supported, they communicate better and feel more cohesive as a team.

Early results suggest the preparation is paying off. The softball team recently played two games and won both, showcasing what Knobe described as “a strong foundation.” The wins are encouraging, but the bigger takeaway is the growth already visible in the team’s chemistry and execution. “I’m most excited about playing with a bunch of talented girls and showing what we’re capable of on the field,” she said. “I look forward to seeing where this team can go.”

While wins will always matter, development is just as important. Through structured practices, mental preparation, and a focus on team chemistry, JV softball is entering the season with momentum. As the first few games have started the season strong, one thing is certainly clear: the groundwork has already been laid. Now, it’s time for the team to compete and see how far their preparation can take them.
