Women’s Soccer look to turn their losing streak into a win streak
Boxer Women’s Soccer picked up an enormous win on Wednesday, October 14 over Lewis & Clark. Sophomore defender Marissa Agraz scored the only goal of the game for either team, and keeper Izabella Duckworth had two saves to lead Pacific to a 1-0 win. Pacific outshot Lewis & Clark a stunning 15 to five, and Duckworth kept her fourth clean sheet of the year already in what was a stellar performance all around from the team.
This win was super huge for Boxers for multiple reasons. For one, the win broke a four game losing streak and a run of six losses in the last seven games that the Boxers played in. The win also gave Pacific a much needed shot of momentum, which the Boxers hope to translate into more wins down the stretch in the last six games of the 2026 fall season.
I spoke with the Pacific women’s soccer team’s head coach Kellan McNamara, who attributes the bounce back on Wednesday to a sharpening of the Boxers defensive play. “We adjusted some things tactically… making sure we’re a little bit more compact and organized in our press,” he claimed.
Although defense is important, McNamara’s focus for the team is being aggressive and offensive. So far, it’s a strategy that’s been working well. “We’ve scored more goals than we’ve scored in the last three years which has been exciting”, boasted McNamara. “We want to be a team that presses and wins the ball high up the field.” McNamara praised the team for being more proactive defensively than they’ve been in the past, as well as highlighting the team’s energy and enthusiasm this season.
Maximizing their offensive opportunities is something that the Boxers will need to do if they want to come out victorious in their upcoming games, which are mostly against teams that have gotten the better of them already this season. Despite the tough schedule coming up, the Boxers are looking forward to the test. “Every game is an exciting one”, said McNamara. “I truly don’t think you can play your best unless you play a top opponent, so it’s an opportunity for us to truly be the best version of ourselves.”
Next up for the Boxers is one of those top opponents, as they take on the undefeated Loggers of Puget Sound on Friday, October 16. Pacific then stays home for a game against PLU and the Lutes, before travelling to Walla Walla to take on Whitman.
