ACE Board does its first open mic night of the year

   The first act for the first open mic night of the year was a musical performance from Pacific students Mac Curtis and Deijah Diego. A mellow song, the pair’s voice complimented each other, with Curtis playing guitar. Next up: Pacific student Clarissa Flores, acoustic guitar and singing and a few technical difficulties; doubly impressive considering it was her first performance at open mic night. The hits kept coming with the next set of students, Jevin Lim and Tiago, performing karaoke John Denver “Country Roads,” forgetting the lyrics once or twice, but never losing their liveliness and the crowd never faltering in their cheers and support.

   The open mic is a ritual and tradition at Pacific University, an equal opportunity for earnestly trying out talents and for enjoying peers’ American Idol attempts.

  Two more musical performances by Pacific students took to the stage—one a karaoke “Feeling Good” by Michael Buble and the other being an acoustic guitar and vocal performance by Peyton Thomas—before a headliner took the stage, comedian and actor Chinedu Unaka, best known best for his role in Abbott Elementary. Unaka lobbed jobs about his upbringing in California, made a few “mostly kidding” jabs about Pacific, before settling into a Q&A. 

   Hosted by the ACE Board, the inaugural open mic was a strong and promising start to the year.
