Pacific student Sam Janes shares his views on the Seattle Seahawks experience

The Seattle Seahawks are the hottest ticket in Pacific Northwest Sports right now, but is the hype warranted?

The Seahawks triumphed in Super Bowl 60, revenging the New England Patriots with a romping score of 29-13. But this year, the champs have looked shaky in a season where some had predicted they would repeat as champions. Seattle currently holds a 4-3 record on the season, but their 20-3 victory over the previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs left a great impression on the fans, and sent a message to the rest of the league.

Seattle as a team is oriented around their fearsome defense, nicknamed The Dark Side, which has been the best defense in football for a couple seasons. The Seahawks feature a great mix of youth and experience on the defensive side of the ball, and third year head coach Mike McDonald is widely regarded as a top three defensive playcaller in football. If you’re looking for more offense however, no problem. Look no further than the reigning offensive player of the year Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The fourth year wide receiver leads the NFL in receiving yards with an insane count of 887 through a mere seven weeks. The Seahawks also picked up arguably the best offensive guard in football this week, trading the Colts for Quenton Nelson to help bolster the offensive line.

Despite the team’s successes, the most talked about aspect of the Seattle Seahawks is the atmosphere. The stadium, Lumen Field, is located in the heart of downtown Seattle, and a real hawk leads the team out onto the field at the beginning of every game. Seahawks fans are known to be some of the loudest fans in football, and the noise reached an ear-piercing level during the Kansas City game, hitting upwards of 107 decibels. In contrast to the noise, Seattle fans are known to be some of the friendliest fans in football, unless you’re a 49ers supporter. All of this adds up to a very energetic, lively, and fun experience for the viewer.
