New Changes to Meal Plans and Library Hours

You might have noticed Washburne Hall now has beautiful black accents, and the athletic field house has fresh turf, and Aucoin Hall’s renovation will finally be in use for a full year. But these aren’t the only things that have changed around Pacific University; in fact, quite a lot has been gone while students were away.

New Meal Plan

First and foremost, the meal plan structure has changed, offering the same meal plan styles as previous years, slightly adjusted. There are still the four basic meals plans, but the amount of meals was changed along with the declining Boxer Bucks. During the 23-24 school year, the lowest meal plan offered seven out of nineteen meals a week, along with $500 Boxer Bucks. But this year, the lowest meal plan is fourteen of the nineteen meals with $300 Boxer Bucks. The change was to provide equal value to all meal plans, considering they all cost the same. Another addition was made adding a new “commuter plan,” allowing off-campus students to have their own meal plan or Boxer Bucks if they wish. Following that, meal plan prices have also gone up, due to annual increased costs of product, delivery and labor cost. Overall, the structure remains predominantly the same, but the distribution of weekly meal swipe to Boxer Bucks is now widely changed.

New Library Hours

In other news, there have been some changes to the library as well. To accommodate student schedules and student usage trends, extended library hours will also be offered during finals and midterms to support during that busy time of year, along with the already 24-hour study room. But normal hours will be;

Monday -Thursday: 7:30 am-10 pm

Friday: 7:30 am-7 pm

Saturday : Noon-7 pm

Sunday : Noon -10 pm.

The library is also continuing to work on their electronic textbook initiative to support affordable online textbooks for students. Along with that, the library is working towards offering free access to required course textbooks in ebook format; not for all courses, only the ones available for the library to purchase. More information about library activities can be obtained during Libraries Week, September 23-30.

Other additional changes include new parking passes but no changes to the struggle of overnight parking. An ongoing issue for students because of the inconsistent ratio of overnight parking spots to student vehicles. This continues to be a constant problem for those returning to campus late at night when no spots are available in the designated parking lots, so they must find accommodation elsewhere. Although it is stated in the terms and conditions that parking is not guaranteed when students first buy a parking pass, with a growing amount of vehicles it remains a heavily discussed issue.
