Freshly Brew Let Down

Newly revamped campus coffee is less than expected!

Late in last spring term, it was announced that the centrally located coffeeshop—a Starbucks—would close. This popular spot was a busy, go-to spot for students and faculty’s daily dose of caffeine, as well as a convenient place to work, meet, and socialize with their peers on-campus; it was also listed during freshman orientation last fall as a reason to attend Pacific.

In place of Starbucks was pledged a new coffee shop—with more options and more finely-tuned to the student and community’s needs. There was even a menu sneak peak, coffee tasting event, and high promises for the Boxer Brew Coffee Shop.

And, it has not failed to deliver new options: The shop now sells smoothies and boba drinks not offered before because the Pacific brand allows Boxer Brew to expand beyond the set Starbucks menu.

However, for many, these upsides have been overshadowed as students began filtering their way back onto campus. To start, the coffee shop is not yet fully renovated, even with the first days of fall semester well behind us. At press time, new furniture and features are yet to be added, resulting in very limited seating for patrons wanting to stay in-house, and awkward milling around as patrons wait for their orders.

“It’s honestly a huge let down,” says an anonymous student. “I used to go to Starbucks at least three times a week, and now with the changes, the new coffee shop just doesn’t have what I want.”

We hope that Boxer Brew will grow into its promises and expectations—and perhaps even offer pumpkin spice lattes.
