The Pacific University women’s basketball team ended their season on Saturday, Feb. 17, falling to nationally ranked George Fox University with a score of 60-59. The Boxers finished 5-19 overall and 4-12 in conference, landing them in eighth place in the Northwest Conference.
“Our goal was to come in, lay a solid foundation and create a culture,” head coach Larry Davis said. “We also wanted to show growth throughout the season and this team has de nitely done that.”
Even though the season did not turn out quite like they had hoped, coach Davis felt the Boxers were able to handle adversity and became better because of it.
“We’ve gone through numerous injuries and each time we’ve gone through it, we’ve been able to bounce back,” Davis said.
Davis has high hopes and a strong belief in this group going forward.
“The sky is limit for this group,” Davis said. “We had a team meeting the other day and I told them this should be a top three team in this conference next year. It’s a competitive conference when you look across the board but next year is the true measuring stick for his group.”
Junior forward Charli Elliott shares Davis’ belief in this group.
“We have a solid group,” Elliott said. “I think as we continue to play together more we’ll get to know each other better and the intricacies of working with one another.”
Elliott feels the team has the potential to do well in the conference next season.
“We took a lot of people by surprise this year just with how hard we work and a lot of the aspects we bring to the game,” Elliott said. “I think if we up that next year and continue to progress in the way we’re headed we have the potential to due awesome things.”
