Sexualizing Disaster: Overturning Roe V. Wade Gets Kinky

posted in: Love & Sex | 0

On June 4, 2022, the Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade, the 1973 landmark case that granted abortion access across the country. Leading up to and since its upheaval, millions of people have been facing the consequences; women have been jailed, hospitalized, and have died due to anti-abortion laws passed throughout the country. But this isn’t the only thing that has changed since the end of the 50-year protection that Roe ensured; since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, breeding kinks have been on the rise.

I promise you read that correctly, take a second and come to terms with this information…Good, now we can continue.

A breeding kink, for those that don’t know, is a sexual practice in which partners share unprotected fluid exchange that may result in pregnancy, though this does not necessarily mean it is exclusive to cisgender or heterosexual couples. Since Roe v. Wade has ended and stricter abortion bans have been set in place, there has been an upward trend in this kind of kink. Many sexual fantasies are contingent on thrill, and since the end of Roe, has made pregnancy a looming threat for many. Society tends to romanticize and sexualize what is taboo, tragic, or dangerous, and for many across the country, the idea of parentage, pregnancy, and all the commitments and complications that come with these things is invigorating. Having unprotected sex hasn’t been more dangerous since 1973, so for more than 50 years, breeding kinks haven’t been in the spotlight because they weren’t at the forefront of a political battle.

So not only will there be a spike in pregnancies because of the pro-birth agenda and the legal casualties it has left in its wake to prevent sexual education, preventative measures, and abortions, but I hypothesize there will be an increase in children born to parents who were just getting it on for the thrill, not knowing the danger they felt in the act would come to fruition. Not every breeding kink is purely fear-play, as a fair amount of the time, the end goal is pregnancy, but those who choose to dip their toes because their TikTok FYP is full of spicy booktok breeding may feel the strain in nine months. — Haley Berger
