Youth Movement Flourishes within Boxer Lacrosse

Recently hitting the field is Boxers Lacrosse with the season they have been preparing for all year.

Boxers Women’s Lacrosse has started strong—and they are feeling confident after a solid performance in their preseason game against Eastern Oregon University. An impressive 13-9 win for the season opener proves that this team is ready and willing to fight. After a rocky season last year (5-12), the team hopes to start fresh and build off of this strong win. With many players experiencing their first-ever college lacrosse game, the high-scoring game has boosted the team’s confidence and pushes them ahead for the upcoming season.

Senior Captain Devyn Davis will be the glue to the team this season. She led her team well with her leadership accompanied by scoring a total of eight goals herself in the season opener against Eastern Oregon. After transferring to Pacific her sophomore year, Davis is entering her second season on the team, and hopes to lead her team to a winning season. With her outstanding performance in the first game, there is great promise for the strong leader to do so. “Each game is a new challenge to tackle,” Davis explains. “But I do believe we will shock the conference with our tenacity and individual skills to perform greatly together.”

Davis is most excited to see the growth of each person and the team as a whole this season. “We have so much potential and talent to do great things,” Davis shared. The team is fairly young with eight new freshmen added to the team.

One of the newest additions to the team, yet a key player is freshman soccer player, Peyton McDonald, who joined lacrosse this year with no prior experience. “I knew Coach Britt and she told me she needed more players,” McDonald explains, “I came out to practice and I loved the team environment and the sport.” After a few weeks of training and learning how to play, McDonald started the first two games and continues to gain more skills as the season progresses. Joining the team with no experience is uncommon, but she has been able to fit in just fine. Playing in every position on the field McDonald is happy to be involved with the team and help in any way she can.

The inclusion of eight new freshmen to the team adds the fresh mix that the team needs. There are a lot of new skills and positive additions to the team that will surprise the league. One of the main things that McDonald has learned as a new player along with how to cradle, get a ground ball, and learn the sport entirely is how to faceguard players. This is her favorite thing to do in the games and is just a small part of why she likes this team so much.

“There is so much room to explore and build chemistry with the younger players, everything is possible and achievable because of that,” Davis concluded.

The team hosts Linfield, 1 pm, Saturday, March 23.
