On Sunday, Jan. 26, the Pacific community said goodbye to a longtime supporter and trustee emeritus. George Burlingham passed away at the age of 79.

Burlingham and his family had been respected members of the Forest Grove and Pacific communities for more than eight decades. Burlingham served on the Pacific University Board of Trustees from 1988 to 2012, when he was awarded trustee emeritus status. He also served as chair of the board’s Campus Property Committee. Burlingham’s mother, Doris, also served as a Pacific University Trustee from 1956 to 1984 and remained connected to the university until her death in 2004.

In honor of their great generosity and dedication to Pacific, Burlingham Hall was named after the family. The Burlinghams were not only dedicated to Pacific as a whole but also to the education of Pacific students. For this, George Burlingham and his wife, Ruth, received Pacific’s Harvey Clarke Award. They also received the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce’s 2012 Philanthropic Leadership Award for their many years of service to Pacific, Tuality Healthcare and the Oregon Community Foundation.

Burlingham is survived by his wife and their two daughters, Sheri Schneider and Karen Bland. A private service is going to be held to celebrate Burlingham’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the Burlingham family is asking that any memorial gifts be made to Pacific University in support of the College of Business. Personal wishes and cards can be sent to University President Lesley Hallick to insure that they reach the Burlingham family.
