Tight-knit golf group shares optimistic outlook

Although the scores don’t show, the Pacific Golf Team has high hopes as they progress through the fall season.

So far, both the men and women have competed in two invitational tournaments. The overall results have been in the bottom five consistently.

For the men, senior Josh Mau has so far led the team in multiple rounds. In last week’s Whitworth Invitational, Mau shot a 75 in the final round that helped him finish only 12-over-par.

In similar fashion on the women’s team, junior Madeleine Ottosson finished in 12th place after her seven-over-par finish in the George Fox Invitational.

Looking past the numbers, according to the golfers, there is a positive outlook for the group.

“I would say the season is going pretty well,” said sophomore Leah Imhoff. “We’ve had a few injuries which have brought down our numbers, and the weather has caused some cancellations. However, we have a fresh new team, and we are working on getting all the kinks out for spring.”

Another bonus is that everyone is learning from each other. Out of the seven golfers on the men’s team, four are upperclassmen. The women’s team is a little younger, but still able to improve based on teamwork.

“We are all really close and we always help out each other. We have really good players and everyone has a good head on their shoulders,” said Imhoff. “They know the game and how to play it.”

Imhoff knows that most of the improvements that need to be made will happen over time.

“There is always room for improvement. Some girls haven’t played in weather like this before, which means they are not used to the swing adjustments that need to be made. Another thing is learning the new rules from high school to college,” said Imhoff.

Weather permitting, both teams will have a few more chances for improvement in the upcoming tournaments.

“I’m glad we have a lot of new girls who are really dedicated,” said Imhoff.

The dedication and positive attitudes are bringing optimism to the team for building on their foundation.
