Boxers prepare for upcoming season

Consistency is key for both the men’s and women’s golf teams as they begin to finish the back half of their spring season.
With four more matches left, two of which are major tournaments, the golf teams have a good opportunity to finish out the season with success.
Head Coach Richard Warren mentioned that, “Expectations for the teams are that we need improve upon what we did in the fall season, and show more consistent progress. For both teams to have success this season, we especially need our three, four and five players to step up and be more consistent with their play.”
At the Pacific Lutheran University Invitational this past weekend, senior Luke Olson placed 14th and sophomore Briana Finau placed 3rd, setting the bar the for the rest of the team for the weeks to come. Warren has identified these two players as standouts, who can be the examples of consistency and finishing matches strong.
“Everyone including myself has the capability to compete at the highest level in conference,” Olson said. “It’s a matter of preparing yourself for tournament play, the more tournaments we compete in, the more experience we get and that can go a long way.”
Olson’s experience and approach to each tournament is extremely beneficial for the team’s youth and inexperience. With over half of the men’s team being underclassmen, the entire team will need to make major strides each week in order to come out on top in the Northwest Conference (NWC).
“I think for this second half of the season we will need to work on becoming more consistent as well as adjusting to the difference in weather conditions.” Finau said. Just like Coach Warren and Olson mentioned, Finau is adamant about the team’s ability to stay consistent at each tournament.
The Boxers will head to the Willamette Valley Cup next weekend, a week before the NWC spring classic on April 7 and 8.
Both teams will need to fix their mistakes and capitalize on their strengths in the remaining three tournaments, leading up to the NWC Championships in late April.
