Choir prepares for Holiday Concert

Pacific University choir, chamber choir, a tenor-bass choir, a soprano-alto choir, and the acapella groups Voce Femme and Splendid Audacity will all be performing at this year’s Holiday concert.

“We’re going to have six different choirs on there,” Director of Choral Activities Scott Tuomi said. “We’ve never done that, and everybody’s doing their own programming, and so there’s a real diversity of stuff.”

The repertoire of the evening consists of a variety of holiday tunes, from secular to sacred, and will include a couple Jewish pieces.

“I was so upset about what happened in Pittsburgh on Oct. 27 that I just came to the chamber singers and said we need to do some things in Hebrew,” Tuomi said.

Some of the pieces that will be included are a French Christmas carol titled Noel Nouvelet, a Finnish Carol called Joulu Rakkennettu, and a Hebrew prayer called Aleih Neiri. Following all of the choir performances, will be a sing-along portion with piano accompaniment.

“I think there’s a little bit of something for everybody,” Tuomi said. “The whole idea is just to put everybody in a good mood for holidays coming up.”

The Holiday concert will be Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in McCready Hall. Tickets are free for students, faculty, and staff.
