Alicia Elfring

Elfring, a student in the College of Education at the Eugene campus, was killed in a single car accident early the morning of Saturday March 12.

Robin Keillor, Director of the Counseling Center, was present in Eugene on March 14 to help provide a safe and supportive space for students, faculty and staff to share their grief.


John Howarth

Howarth was the devoted husband of Pacific’s 15th president, Dr. Faith Gabelnick. Having lived all over the world, John settled in Forest Grove as his final home, remaining a vital member of the community even after Faith’s untimely passing in 2004.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Dr. John Howarth will be held on Monday, March 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the home of Peggy and Tige Harris at Blooming Farm, 4800 SW Golf Course Road, Cornelius, Ore. 97113. All are welcome to attend.

David and Sandy Lowe

Trustee David Lowe and his wife Sandy passed away Feb. 16 as a result of an automobile accident in South Carolina. David and Sandy were traveling from Florida to Maryland to visit one of their daughters.

The Lowes had a history of involvement with the university, recently as the benefactors of two scholarship funds, including a Lowe-Spurling Endowed Scholarship for Business. This scholarship assists a third or fourth-year business student with a demonstrated need who has achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher.

Additionally, David Lowe served on a number of community boards and councils.
